Santorini, Greece

Santorini, one of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea, was devastated by a volcanic eruption in the 16th century B.C.E., forever shaping its rugged landscape and villages. The whitewashed, cubist houses of its 2 principal towns, Fira and Oia, cling to cliffs above an underwater caldera (crater). They overlook the clear Aegean and beaches made up of black, red and white lava pebbles.

Santorini lies to the south of Greece Island. The giant cliffs are actually the rim of huge volcano. Just over three and half thousand years ago a massive volcanic eruption tore the island apart living a vast lagoon which now sustains with so much of lives here.

To survive on this island, the earliest inhabitance mainly Deccan’s and fisherman was forced to rely on the intunity and the skill to term a harsh environment. The summer is very hot and the winters are very stormy and cold. So the islanders dug deep into the rock face and made their homes in the caves. These caves are still lived in there today.
